'CRAFTING, CARING & SHARING’ AT EMMANUEL AND AROUND THE GLOBE
Since the WOW organization discontinued it’s patch-making program we have shifted our focus and are supporting a number of different causes. One of the charities we support is Canadian Food For Children (CFFC). This Christian organization is run 100% by volunteers of all faiths, and supplies food and goods to the needy around the world. Our group brings some of the items we make to the Woodstock distribution centre at Holy Trinity Church. From there it's taken to Mississauga and put into containers which go to one of 22 countries around the world. The crocheted, knit or cloth squares that we make are sewn into afghans either by us or put together in a 3rd world country. We also provide them with pneumonia vests and hats for sick children in hospitals. Another group we support is Helping Hands Street Mission in Hamilton. Their mission is to reach out one hands at a time, with love and respect. Through partnership with the community they address the needs of the homeless, the working poor and spiritually poor. They believe in the power of listening, prayer and spiritual support. As a group, we provide them with slippers, hats, and dishcloths as needed on an ongoing basis. We also support Kondanani (“love one another”). This is an orphanage founded by Annie Terpstra Chikhwaza who is also known as ‘the Mother of Malawi’. This facility has grown to be a small village with a medical clinic, school and farm. In a country with more than one million orphans Kondanani is an oasis of love. Our group helps by sewing some clothes for the children living there. A doctor who has a practice in London goes to Malawi a number of times a year and is willing to take a package from us directly to the orphanage. A little finger puppet for a child to play with is just a simple thing to make but gives such fun to children. They have been sent to Haiti as well as Malawi. Our CCS group is a fun group of which to be a part. We have a great time together, admire each others latest project, and we seem never to be short of conversation or laughs! Come and join us anytime and see for yourself what we’re all about! We’d love to have you!
Join us the first and third Wednesday of every month at 10:00 a.m!
